This first meeting brought scientists and engineers from the U.S. and Western Europe. The NEM Meeting was later renamed as the High-Power Electromagnetics Meeting or HPEM. When this meeting was held in 1994 in Bordeaux, France, it was renamed EUROEM, and subsequently, the meetings in North America were called AMEREM. These meetings have been held every even year since 1978. In 2015, due to the increased number of papers from Asia, it was decided to hold the first ASIAEM Conference in Jeju, South Korea. Following meetings organized in India and China were called ASIAEM. This year, the meeting has moved to Abu Dhabi and has been renamed GLOBALEM, regardless of the conference location.
